Why even vote for Town Council? And why are there so many candidates, anyway? Funny you should ask! Farmington is split into two districts (District One and District Two). Each of these districts has three representatives in Town Council, plus there’s a seventh representative, the Town Council Chair, elected by the entire town of Farmington. Each political party can nominate and run two candidates per district.
But wait, doesn’t each district elect THREE candidates? Yes! This ensures that there will be minority party representation within Town Council, making sure that all residents’ voices are heard.
So what does this mean for you?
It means that everyone’s vote counts, and that both parties get to have an impact on town policies.
