After completing a recanvassing for four close races of Farmington’s municipal elections, the Election Day results were upheld, with one exception: Scott Halstead is now confirmed to have been elected to his first full term on the Commission (he is currently serving a vacancy term).
Other notable results from Farmington’s elections, confirmed by the recanvassing, include Rafeena Bacchus Lee’s victory, which adds a third seat for the Democrats to the Town Council. Bacchus Lee is the first woman of color elected to the Town Council. Long-time Plan and Zoning Commission member Barbara Brenneman was re-elected for another term and first time candidates James Rackliffe and Liz Sanford were elected to serve on the TPZ as alternates. Jon Schoenhorn was re-elected to the Zoning Board of Appeals, and Chris Cloud was elected to his first term on the ZBA. Alternate Harry Marsh won re-election to the Board while newcomer Bob Wienner was elected to a first term also as alternate.
From Election Day results: Town Council members Brian FX Connolly and Edward Giannaros both won their bid for re-election. Incumbent Board of Education members, Bill Beckert and Andrea Sobinski won re-election, and former Town Council member Patti Boye-Williams was elected to her first term on the BOE. These results maintain a Democratic majority for the Board of Education.
Board of Assessment Appeals member Ron White will return to the Board for another term, and Dr. Frank Gerratana will join the Board as an alternate member.
Constable Peter Bagdigian won re-election to that position.
Several Democrats were the top-vote getters in their respective races: Brian Connolly Town Council – First District, Andrea Sobinski Board of Education (6-way race), Barbara Brenneman Town Plan and Zoning, Liz Sanford TPZ Alternate, Chris Cloud Zoning Board of Appeals, and Peter Bagdigian Constable.
Voter turnout for Farmington’s municipal elections was 34.75%, with a total of 7,035 votes cast. There are 20,252 registered voters in Farmington.
Many thanks to all who took the time to support this campaign and to all of our candidates who ran in order to continue the work that makes our town a wonderful place to live and work!
