2026 FDTC Scholarships Awarded

The Farmington Democratic Town Committee, (FDTC), is proud to announce the 2026 FDTC Farmington High School, (FHS), winners of the FDTC Annual Scholarship Award to graduating FHS Seniors, Miriam Feinberg and Nithin Solomon.

The FDTC offers up to 2 scholarships annually, (with money raised from FDTC members and Friends of the FDTC), to students who wish to pursue their education in the field of government or community service. A proven commitment to local political and/or civic involvement is required. The winners must enroll in a college or university within the year of when the scholarship is given.

In order to be considered for the FDTC Scholarship, FHS Seniors must fill out an application and submit it to the FHS Counseling Department by the deadline date, typically within the 1st quarter of a new year.

Questions applicants must answer, among others, are:

Listing of any financial aid and/or other scholarships offered
Major academic achievements
Participation in volunteer/extracurricular activities and work experience
Involvement in local, state or national political work
Long-term plans after graduation from college
Naming a notable individual (living of dead) with whom you would like to have dinner with and why

Applicants must also attend a required individual in-person interview with members of the FDTC Scholarship Committee where they will be asked follow up questions from their applications. They also have an opportunity to add any additional relevant information and elaborate on any unusual circumstances the scholarship committee should consider.

Miriam will be attending Barnard College this Fall. Miriam’s major career goals include becoming an Attorney, Political Analyst, and Political Compliance Manager, wishing to uphold the core principles of truth and justice.

Some of Miriam’s major achievements at FHS and in the community included: Facilitating FHS annual Student Voter Registration Drives; FHS Social Justice Week participant; FHS Young Dems Co-Chair; FHS Food Pantry Club President, organizing food drives; FHS Asian American Student Union Secretary & Social Media Manager, increasing cultural awareness; Volunteering on multiple municipal, state and National campaigns for “Get Out the Vote” efforts; Connecting students with the elderly Farmington community, hosting technology help events and facilitating a senior buddy system.

Nithin will be attending Yale University this Fall. Nithin’s major career goals include pursuing a career in biomedical research and medical anthropology, studying how to both contribute to groundbreaking discoveries in the lab, while also ensuring that they remain accessible, especially within underserved and underrepresented communities.

Some of Nithin’s major achievements @ FHS and in the community included: FHS Science Bowl Lead Team Member; FHS Co-President of Health Occupants of America Club, enhancing healthcare quality; FHS Principal’s Advisory Council member; Lobbying with CT’s US Congressperson and US Senator on affordable healthcare; Interned at Yale to increase clinical trial participation; Volunteering at Shady Oaks Assisted Living Center and the Hospital of Central CT.
