At the Farmington Democratic Town Committee’s monthly meeting held on June 29th, the FDTC honored our two annual James P. Smith Farmington Democrats Scholarship recipients.

Laurie Chan Yousman (left) and Allen Haugh (right) are both stellar students and exemplify civic engagement in the community. This fall Laurie will be one of the two 2017 graduates of Farmington High School to be attending Yale University and Allen, the Captain of the Farmington High School Debate team, will be attending the University of Oxford.

This year’s recipients were introduced by FDTC member Liz Giannaros. Liz informed the FDTC meeting attendees that the FDTC Scholarship Committee chair Sandra Rajan and other members had a large group of deserving applicants to choose from. Narrowing down the selection was difficult, but Laurie and Allen rose to the top due to their academic achievements, political activism and their desire to make a positive impact for our community. Each recipient received a $1000 scholarship.
