On May 22nd, over 100 residents from the towns of Farmington, Plainville, New Britain, Southington and surrounding communities met to discuss the progress to date on the closure of the 6 mile gap between the terminus of the Farmington trail to the north, and the terminus of the Southington trail to the south. When completed, the paved rail trail will extend 84 miles from New Haven to Northampton, MA. John Vibert, Farmington Town Council Member from the 2nd District and the Chairman of the Farmington Bicycle Advisory Committee was one of several Farmington Democrats participating in the information gathering session.
Four potential routes from Farmington through Plainville to Southington were presented, along with two potential routes from Plainville to a New Britain CT Fastrak station.
The Plainville Gap Closure Study is requesting feedback from now until June 2nd regarding the options presented. Later this summer, another meeting will be held to identify the final route selected and discuss design specifics.
