Meet Andrea Sobinski - BOE Candidate for Re-election

Andrea Sobinski – Bio:

A proud resident since 2010, parent leader, community volunteer, and seasoned social worker, Andrea Sobinski sees and hears Farmington from a variety of perspectives. She believes the path to progress is led not by talking the most or the loudest, but by listening and seeking to find common ground. Farmington needs a leader who will listen to its residents and ensure that all voices are heard and equally represented. Andrea is committed to working collaboratively with community members and local officials to advance educational opportunities for all students in our district and to maintain Farmington’s high quality of education.

Andrea’s personal and professional experiences have taught her the importance of fostering positive relationships and offering open, accessible and transparent communication with all interested parties. Identifying what is important to you, proposing solutions and effecting positive change are among her valuable skills, honed over years of engagement in the schools and community. Andrea is passionate about creating a brighter future for our community and putting the needs of Farmington’s students and families first!

Elected in 2017, Andrea brings knowledge and experience to the Board of Education.  She is currently the Chair of the Personnel and Negotiations Committee, member of the Curriculum Committee, liaison to the Noah Wallace Fund and Health and Wellness Committees, and former liaison to the Green Efforts Committee. She was a member of the principal’s search committees for Irving Robbins Middle, West Woods Upper Elementary and West District Elementary schools.  Andrea has been a school volunteer since 2010, serving as PTO Co-President and Secretary at Noah Wallace School. She has been a member of the Principal’s Student Development Council, Superintendent’s Parent Leadership Forum, Class of 2022 Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Class Parent Representative, and Project Graduation volunteer.  She has been a Farmington Soccer Club team manager since 2013. 

Andrea is a licensed clinical social worker with 22 years of experience in the private and public sectors, including the public schools. Andrea is currently employed at Hartford Hospital and UCONN Health Center as a crisis clinician.  Andrea earned a master’s degree from the UCONN School of Social Work and a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University.

Andrea is married to Sohrab, a psychiatrist and is the mother of Cole and Caitlin, who attend Farmington Public Schools, and Austin, an energetic bulldog/boxer mix. In her free time, Andrea enjoys walking the Farmington trails, reading, traveling and can often be found on the fields at Tunxis Mead, cheering on her daughter’s soccer team.
